Alain Winance

Viewing Alain Winance's current landscapes is like entering a meditation room.

He is the one who immerses you in the mists of dawn and dusk. Who, with his brush, hunts down clouds, sometimes opaque, sometimes more or less transparent. Who discovers light in a crack in the sky, who senses its arrival in the midst of a leaden space. He is the one who manages to capture movement, precisely at the moment when it seems to hang still in the time of infinity.

The black and grey tones, supported by other colours applied as
undercoats, create the atmosphere of a
maritime landscape saturated with moisture, yet vibrating differently
under the light. That light is intrinsic to each canvas; it is not captured from outside, but is an integral part
of the way it is painted.

Ultimately, it is painting itself that forms the subject. Everything is painterly even before the image becomes visual. This shows how
essential the material applied to the canvas is. It is that material that causes the eye to invent a landscape,
drawn from our memory, nourished by what the painter offers, fused with the memories of what the eyes have retained from travels, walks, reading.
