Ommery De Zutter
It begins with light. Not the light that illuminates something, but that becomes something. A vibration that takes shape, a space that opens up to let you in. When you enter his work, you feel a shift: what you see seems to breathe. What you hear seems to move. What you think begins to disappear. Ommery De Zutter builds worlds out of code and silence. His art is as precise as it is intuitive, born of architecture, nourished by philosophy, and shaped in the digital domain where matter dissolves into consciousness. He explores the boundary between dream and data structure: between what we experience and what we can re-experience through technology. Since his first works, described by the media as ‘digital universes in which the viewer can get lost’, his work has grown into a new chapter in Belgian contemporary art. In Future Visions at Gallery Ysebaert (2025), his virtual architecture was experienced as ‘a delicate entanglement of dream and data structure’ (Kunstflaneur). And in OKV, Yves Joris wrote: ‘What De Zutter shows is not technology — it is a form of belief in what is not yet visible.’ His installations are cathedrals of light: rare, concentrated, almost sacred spaces in which time has no direction. The experience is personal and inescapable. A memory of something we thought we had forgotten.
‘It feels like you own a piece of the future.’ Once you step inside, you will never leave this new world.
